Police were looking for a culprit after a shooting broke out on Sunday during an after-hours party in Omaha, Nebraska, leaving one person dead and seven others injured.

According to a news release from the Omaha Police Department, officers who responded to reports of a shooting at around 4 a.m. local time (5 a.m. EST) discovered two victims who appeared to have been shot. The Nebraska Medical Center received both casualties, and one of them was later declared dead.

According to the announcement, six other individuals with non-life-threatening injuries were transported by private vehicle to the Nebraska Medical Center and CUMC-Bergan Mercy Medical Center.

According to a later report from Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer, the incident is thought to have started when a dispute at a party after hours erupted.

Schmaderer stated, “There is no indication it was a random shooting.”

Police are pleading with anyone with knowledge to come forward as they continue their investigation into the fatal incident.

For the sake of the victims and their families, Schmaderer stated, “OPD must piece together what happened.”
