In this article, we highlight 5 figures who have attained fame and managed to keep their identities secret for so long. These strangers have found a way to be known while remaining unknown.
1. Ötzi The Iceman
This is one unknown figure that we owe a lot of information about human history. He lived about 5000 years ago, around 3350 and 3150 BC. He is a natural mummy, preserved by ice.
He was discovered in September 1991 at the Otzal alps and so named after him. He was dressed in a cloak made from wooden grass and a belt, loincloth, leggings, and waterproof shoes, all from different skin leather, and 61 tattoos of differing thickness point that style has always been something humans pull off.
His body can be found in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy.
2. Tsugumi Ohba
This name definitely rings bells for anime lovers. However, while some might recognize the name, they might not know that it’s a pseudonym. This famous Japanese manga writer known for his death note series has chosen to keep his anonymity.
2. The Stig
Well, it’s important to drop a full disclosure first. There’s more than one Stig. However, the identities of all the stigs are undisclosed.
The stig is an anonymous character created by the producers of the Top Gear program on BBC on, to drive exotic cars around the track very fast, and set insane lap times.
While we’ve discovered the identity of a few Stigs, the identity of the third Stig and the second white Stig remains a mystery to date.
3. Tank Man
There’s yet to be a tale as impressive as that of the unknown rebel or more popularly called the Tank Man. On June 5, 1999, a day after the crackdown on the Tiananmen protests by the Chinese government, he stopped a column of type 59 tanks dead in their tracks and he has not been identified.
This unknown rebel stood in front of the lead tank, constantly changing positions as the tank tried to manipulate the standstill.
Numerous sources claim that he has been identified and executed, others, however, argue that he still lives on the mainland or he escaped China to Taiwan. We might never know at this point.
4. Banksy
This anonymous painter has shown bravery. Banks is a pseudonym for a street artist in London who uses his graffiti art to raise political and social concerns.
Banksy is proof that you can make major changes that affect society while remaining anonymous. This multifaceted artist draws inspiration from musical groups and other artists.
