The Weekend opened the 2020 MTV VMAs on a high note after being nominated for six awards. The XO singer kicked off the Sunday’s virtual show with an electrifying performance of his chart-topping hit “Blinding Lights.”

As lights shot up into the night sky, Weekend brought the After Hours song to life, rounding off with spectacular dazzling fireworks. While putting up the magical performance 1,000 feet above downtown NYC at Edge at Hudson Yards, Abel dressed in his signature red blazer with a bloodied nose.

Meanwhile, the Canadian superstar was nominated for six Moon People, including Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for “Blinding Lights,” which stayed atop the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks. Currently, the song charts No. 4.

Last Friday, The Weekend released his latest single “Over Now,” featuring Calvin Harris. He will return to the road next summer on his “After Hours Tour,” which was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
