On Saturday, Buckingham Palace revealed the first image of Queen Elizabeth II’s ultimate resting place next to Prince Philip.
“A ledger stone has been installed at the King George VI Memorial Chapel, following the interment of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth,”
the royal family noted from their verified Twitter account.
The message was accompanied by a photograph of the sovereign’s grave, surrounded by flower arrangements.
Following Elizabeth’s state funeral on September 19, her body was brought to join the body of her late husband, Philip.
Her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who died in 1952 and 2002, respectively, and her sister, Princess Margaret, who died in 2002, were all put to rest in King George VI Memorial Chapel.
Philip’s ashes were originally kept at the Royal Vault at St. George’s Chapel when he died in April 2021 at 99.
St. George’s Chapel houses several royal graves, including the King George VI Memorial Chapel.
Elizabeth died on September 8, at 96, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, after a remarkable 70-year reign.
Following that, her eldest son, King Charles III, ascended to the British throne with his wife, Camilla, who is now Queen Consort.
Charles, 73, issued an emotional message hours after his beloved mother’s death was announced.
“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” read a statement posted to the royal family’s social media accounts.
“We profoundly mourn the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and countless people worldwide.”
“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”
