One Dead, Others Sickened In Listeria Outbreak Linked To Deli Meat And Cheese

In a Listeria Outbreak thought to be connected to deli meat and cheese, one person passed away, a lady lost her pregnancy, and more than a dozen other individuals became ill on Wednesday, according to public health officials.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that at least 16 people in six states have fallen ill, with New York reporting the most cases, but the actual number is probably higher.

The government advised against consuming any meat or cheese from any deli counter “unless it is warmed to an internal temperature of 165°F or till boiling hot” if you are more likely to become seriously ill from the bacteria listeria.

The sicknesses occurred between April 2021 and September 29th, 2022.

Five of the sick persons in New York, where seven of them were identified, purchased deli meat or cheese from at least one NetCost Market location, but others did not, according to the CDC.

According to the CDC, experts believe that the chain is not the only source and that goods purchased from deli counters in several other states are more likely to be the culprit.

According to the agency, “contaminated food probably introduced the outbreak strain of Listeria into delis in multiple states.”

Emails sent to NetCost Wednesday evening requesting comment were not immediately returned.

According to the CDC, seven cases were found in New York, three in Maryland, two in Massachusetts and one in each Illinois and New Jersey.

According to the report, the deceased was from Maryland.

It said that the actual number of sick patients was probably larger.

Between two and ten weeks after consuming contaminated food, listeria can cause severe illness in some people. However, some people get sick, get better on their own, and go undiagnosed.

According to the CDC, adults, 65 and older and pregnant women are among those who are most at risk for developing a serious illness. A severe case can result in the loss of a pregnancy and the death of newborns.
