After Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted his suggested peace proposal, which calls for Ukraine to give up its efforts to retake control of Crimea, Ukraine’s officials and supporters were furious on social media on Tuesday.
Gary Kasparov, a Russian dissident and former world chess champion, called Musk’s proposals “moral folly, replication of Kremlin propaganda, and a betrayal of Ukrainian courage and sacrifice,” He also criticized Musk’s motives. The parliament of Ukraine responded with the word “no.” However, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, acknowledged Musky’s efforts to find a peaceful resolution.
According to Musk’s plan, Ukraine would have to maintain its neutrality, and Crimea would legally join Russia, ending Ukraine’s attempts to join NATO. Musk also called for new elections in the territories where Russia annexed four parts of Ukraine due to the phoney referendums it organized last month. According to Musk, the U.N. would oversee the voting process.
He included a survey, and almost 2.5 million people rejected it roughly 60% to 40%. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, responded with a survey of his own, asking Twitter followers if they preferred Musk backing Russia or Ukraine. Over 2 million voters chose Ukraine with about 80% of the vote.
