Several Ukrainian embassies and consulates across Europe have received bloody packages containing animal eyes and explosives, officials announced late Friday.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Oleg Nikolenko, a spokesman for the foreign ministry, claimed that embassies in Spain, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, and Italy had received shipments containing animal disembodied eyes. According to him, consulates in Krakow, Poland, Naples, Italy, and Brno, Czech Republic had also been targeted.
According to Nikolenko, the “bloody parcels” all smell distinctive and arrived drenched in a colourful liquid. He also said that Ukraine was “studying the meaning of this message.”
Various Minister Dmytro Kuleba claimed Ukraine had “already ramped up security and are working with national law enforcement agencies of foreign nations” in a separate statement posted on his Facebook page.
“Despite the perverted threats, we continue to strongly defend Ukraine on the diplomatic front,” he stressed.
Spain’s Interior Ministry informed The Associated Press that the facility had been evacuated after the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid became the latest location to receive a parcel containing animal eyes on Friday. The ministry also noted that the package had been shipped from outside the nation.
Security was increased after letter bombs were sent to six addresses in Spain earlier this week, including the Ukrainian and American embassies as well as Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
The residence of the Ukrainian envoy to the Vatican was vandalized in another location. Andrii Yurash claimed to have found what appeared to be animal waste at the door of his home, according to the AP.
He described the entryway’s walls, stairs, and apartment door as being “smeared with a dirty substance with an unpleasant smell.”
