Audience Member Shouts Racial Slur During Detroit Symphony Orchestra Concert

According to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, an audience member yelled a racial insult at a concert last week.

The orchestra stated on Facebook that it was “deeply disappointed by an incident” on Friday night.

Racism and bigotry have no place in Orchestra Hall, and behaviour like this is unacceptable,” according to the statement “Live music is a profoundly human experience that taps into our emotions and provides us all with a sacred space for listening. We apologize that this space was violated.”

What the audience member remarked during a performance of “A Charlie Brown Christmas: Cyrus Chestnut & Friends” was not revealed by the orchestra.

The orchestra is investigating and intends to bar the individual from future performances.
