At Least 37 People Displaced After Large Tree Fire Spreads To Westlake Area Apartment Building

More than 30 people were displaced Thursday night after a large tree fire in the Westlake area spread to a nearby apartment building.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded shortly after 8 p.m. to the 1500 block of W. Cambria St., where heavy fire was reported in the attic.

Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to any first-floor units.

According to the LAFD, it took 74 firefighters about 45 minutes to put out the fire.

There were 37 people displaced, but no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but arson investigators have detained a man at the scene for questioning.

More than a dozen trees were set on fire in the Silver Lake area last month, prompting investigators to search for a possible serial arsonist.

The incident on Thursday occurred as police continue to search for an arsonist who has been targeting several neighbourhoods.

Authorities report nearly 30 tree fires in and around Mt. Washington, Glassell Park, and Silver Lake in the last month.

It’s unclear whether the person detained on Thursday is connected to the other incidents.
