Police in Brooklyn said that a 15-year-old boy was killed after falling off a train while subway surfing.
The adolescent was riding on top of a northbound J train on the Williamsburg Bridge when he went off, according to a statement from the New York City Police Department.
The kid hit the electrified third rail after falling beneath the train, according to the statement.
Police confirmed that although they had been called to the scene, the kid had already been declared deceased.
The teen was not identified by police.
The incident on Thursday follows other instances of subway surfing that were recorded both this year and last.
A 15-year-old boy was gravely hurt in June while subway surfing on top of a train in New York City after striking his head.
According to authorities, the young man was thought to have been riding on top of the train car as it entered the station when he hit his head on “an unknown object” and sustained “serious head damage.”
A video that went viral on social media earlier in that month showed roughly eight people dancing, sprinting, and subway-surfing on top of a northbound J train as it crossed the Williamsburg Bridge.
The event on Thursday is not the first time a fatal incident of subway surfing has occurred. A 32-year-old man died in October 2021 after falling on the tracks while riding a J train across the Williamsburg Bridge.
