As firemen battled the incident in the city centre Friday night, several businesses and bars near Millennium Square were evacuated.
With Pints in hand, patrons fled bars as dense smoke rose from the building site.
Crews warned that the building was “possibly hazardous” and advised locals to avoid the vicinity.
A witness who recorded the incident claimed to have heard “loud booms” emanating from the scene, and those pyrotechnics had struck the building.
When asked to close early, Pixel Bar verified it by posting on social media:
‘There’s a building on fire further down Great George Street that emergency services have responded to.
‘No danger to the bar, but following police advice, we’re closing our doors until further notice tonight and hope to be open again later this evening. Stay safe!’
